Giant volume magnetostriction in La0.85Ce0.15Fe12B6

چکیده

We report the discovery of giant magnetostriction and huge negative thermal expansion (NTE) in itinerant-electron metamagnetic compound La0.85Ce0.15Fe12B6. This system presents multiple magnetic transformations, antiferromagnetic–ferromagnetic (AFM–FM) ferromagnetic–paramagnetic (FM–PM), driven by changes both external field temperature. The magnetic-field–dependent exhibits irreversible abrupt jumps at T ≤ 5 K, while it evolves smoothly with applied above K. A positive volume ΔV/V (20 6 T) = 0.80% is observed across field-induced first-order AFM–FM transition. It further revealed that FM–PM transition accompanied a remarkably large NTE coefficient linear αL −34 × 10−6 K−1 over temperature window ΔT ∼ 63

Giant anisotropic magnetostriction in Pr0.5Sr0.5MnO3

Magnetic, linear thermal expansion (LTE), anisotropic (λt) and volume (ω) magnetostriction properties of Pr0.5Sr0.5MnO3 were investigated. The LTE decreases smoothly from 300 K without a clear anomaly either around the Curie (TC = 270 K) or the Neel temperature (TN = 100 K) and it exhibits hysteresis over a wide temperature range (60 K-270 K) upon warming. Isothermal magnetization study suggest...

Magnetostriction Transition

We present a non mean-field model which undergoes a magne-tostriction phase transition in the temperature. That is, the crystal becomes sharply contracted and magnetized once the temperature passes below the critical value.

Giant magnetostriction in annealed Co(1-x)Fe(x) thin-films.

Chemical and structural heterogeneity and the resulting interaction of coexisting phases can lead to extraordinary behaviours in oxides, as observed in piezoelectric materials at morphotropic phase boundaries and relaxor ferroelectrics. However, such phenomena are rare in metallic alloys. Here we show that, by tuning the presence of structural heterogeneity in textured Co(1-x)Fe(x) thin films, ...

Effect of annealing on torsion giant impedance of Co-rich amorphous wires with vanishing magnetostriction

Torsion giant impedance ~TGI! ratio, (DZ/Z)j , has been measured in as-cast and annealed ~Co0.94Fe0.06)72.5B15Si12.5 amorphous wire. Two-step current annealing has been employed: pre-annealing ~550 mA, 2 min! plus current annealing under torsion stress ~33 p rad/m, 450 mA, up to tann5105 min!. Pre-annealing results in a drastic increase of (DZ/Z)j ~from 155% to 260%! and decrease of the asymmet...

Frustration and microstructure : an example in magnetostriction

Microstructural properties of materials, especially crystalline solids, are implicated in many of their properties. Vice versa, there are macroscopic environments which limit microstructural configurations. Certain iron/rare earth alloys, eg, TbDyFe2, display both a huge magnetostriction and frustration, i.e., minimum energy not achieved, in which microstructure plays an important, if puzzling,...
